Original Brass Taps in Albion's Older Homes

The jumper-valve taps in Albion's workers' cottages and interwar homes were built to be serviced, but after a century of washer changes the brass seat inside is often pitted, which is why a fresh washer only stops the drip for a few weeks. We reseat the tap properly, fit new washers and O-rings and, where the body is too far gone, replace the set with tapware that suits the home.

Mixer Taps in Albion's Unit Blocks

The unit blocks and newer homes around Albion station and Sandgate Road were fitted with single-lever mixers that rely on a ceramic cartridge rather than a washer. A stiff lever, a dripping spout or water at the base means the cartridge or its seals have failed. We carry cartridges for the common brands and normally repair a mixer in one visit, or replace it if the body is damaged.

Garden Taps and Old Pipework in Albion

Albion's established blocks often have a garden tap on a galvanised riser that has been corroding since the house was built. Should I repair my taps or replace them?

If the tap body is sound and parts are available, a repair is quick and economical. Where the chrome is pitted, the seat cannot be recovered or the tapware is an obsolete style, replacing it with a quality WELS-rated set is the better long-term option.
