Brass Taps in Taringa’s Elevated Queenslanders

The heritage Queenslanders and post-war homes on Taringa’s hills mostly still run brass taps that press a rubber washer onto a brass seat. Decades of use pit the seat, so a new washer alone soon drips again. We re-machine the seat on site, fit new jumper valves and O-rings, and free spindles seized from years of being wound down hard.

Mixers in Taringa’s Apartments and Luxury Builds

Taringa’s many apartment complexes and high-end architectural homes use single-lever mixers throughout, and their ceramic cartridges wear or get scored by grit, leaving a drip at the spout or lever. We carry cartridges for the common brands, can source the designer ones specified in luxury builds, and coordinate access with body corporates.

Garden Taps and Pressure Swings on Taringa’s Slopes

Established Taringa blocks under overhanging trees usually have a garden tap that has dripped for years, and the fluctuating pressure between the ridge and the lower streets is hard on them. On a sloping block that drip keeps the ground beside the stumps wet. We repair the tap and wall fitting, and can fit a pressure-limiting valve where pressure is the cause.

How much water does a dripping tap in my Taringa home waste?

A tap dripping about once a second wastes thousands of litres over a year, every one of them on your water bill. A tap that will not close past a trickle wastes several times that. A washer or cartridge fitted properly is a small, one-off cost by comparison.

Can I fix a leaking tap in my Taringa Queenslander myself?

A confident owner can change a washer, but in Taringa’s older homes the seat is usually pitted and the spindle stiff, so the drip comes back within weeks. Most tap work in Queensland is licensed plumbing in any case. A plumber will reseat the tap and check the pipework behind it so the repair actually holds.

Do you repair the mixer taps in Taringa apartments?

Yes. We replace ceramic cartridges in kitchen, basin and shower mixers from the major brands, can order cartridges for less common models, and are happy to coordinate with your body corporate for access. Where a mixer body is damaged, we can source and fit a matching replacement.

Why does my shower still drip after a new washer?

Nearly always because the brass seat is pitted and the new washer cannot seal against it. We re-machine the seat with a reseating tool, fit the right washer, and check the breech behind the wall while the tap is apart, so a hidden leak into the wall cavity is not missed.

Can a leaking tap damage a Taringa house or unit?

A drip from the spout mainly wastes water, but a leak at the base of a tap, under a sink or behind a shower wall soaks into timber framing and flooring in a Queenslander, and in an apartment it can reach the unit below. Have those leaks checked promptly, before swelling, rot or mould set in.

Should I repair my old tapware or replace it?

If the tap body is in good shape, repair is the quick, economical option. If it is corroded, parts are obsolete, or you want a water-efficient upgrade to suit a renovation, new WELS-rated tapware is the better choice.
