Brass Jumper-Valve Taps in Nundah’s Pre-War Homes

Nundah’s Queenslanders and workers’ cottages mostly still have brass taps that seal a rubber washer against a seat. Decades of use pit the seat, so a fresh washer drips again within weeks. We re-machine the seat on site, fit new jumper valves and O-rings, and free seized spindles.

Mixers in Nundah’s Townhouses and Apartments

The newer homes around Nundah Village and along Sandgate Road generally have single-lever mixers on the basin, kitchen and shower. Their ceramic cartridge wears or gets scored by grit, so the tap drips or the lever stiffens. We carry cartridges for the common brands and can source the rest.

Garden Taps and Old Pipework in Nundah

Established Nundah blocks with mature trees usually have a garden tap that has dripped for years, and the pipe feeding it may be original galvanised steel. Almost always because the brass seat the washer closes against is worn or pitted, so the new washer cannot seal. We re-machine the seat with a reseating tool, fit the correct washer, and check the breech behind the wall while we are there so you are not chasing a second leak later.

Can a leaking tap actually damage a Nundah house?

A drip from the spout mostly wastes water, but a leak at the base of a tap, under a sink or behind a shower wall can soak into timber framing and floors. In a Queenslander that means swelling, rot and mould, and on older galvanised pipework it can be a sign of a bigger problem, so get those leaks looked at promptly.

If the tap body is sound, a repair is quick and economical. If it is corroded, parts are no longer available, or you are after a water-efficient upgrade, new WELS-rated tapware is the better spend.
