Brass Jumper-Valve Taps in Kedron’s Older Homes

The interwar and early post-war homes across Kedron, and especially the Queenslanders in the Avenues, mostly still have traditional brass taps. A new washer alone rarely holds because the seat beneath it is pitted. We re-machine the seat on site, fit a quality washer and O-ring and free up seized spindles so the tap shuts off cleanly.

Garden Taps on Kedron’s Established Blocks

With gardens on 500–600 m² blocks and mature trees to water, Kedron’s outdoor taps do a lot of work. They drip at the spout, spray at the spindle or leak at the wall where the pipe has moved. We repair or replace the tap and vacuum breaker, and secure the pipe so a hose pulled at the wrong angle does not start the leak again.

Grit, Old Pipework and Mixer Taps in Kedron

Why does my shower still drip after a new washer?

Almost always because the brass seat behind the washer is pitted or the spindle is worn, so the new washer cannot seal. This is typical of the original tapware in Kedron’s interwar homes. We reseat the tap body and replace the O-rings, which is what stops the drip.

Can a leaking tap damage my Kedron home?

It can. A leak at a shower breech inside the timber wall of a Queenslander can rot the framing and lining before you see it, and a dripping laundry tap can swell a timber floor. Damp walls, mould or a musty smell in the bathroom mean it is time to have it checked before the repair becomes a rebuild.

Should I repair or replace my tapware?

If the tap body is sound, a repair is the economical choice. If the brass is badly worn, the chrome is corroded or parts are no longer made for an original set, new WELS-rated tapware is the better long-term investment.
